Beaumont Hotel

Ouray, Colorado is the location for the restored Beaumont hotel. I've admired the hotel for years and decided the time was right to stay there.

The hotel was one of the grand hotels of Colorado when built in the late 1880's. At the time of building it featured 50 rooms and the new fangled electric lights. Years went by and fortunes changed resulting in the hotel being abandoned for more than 30 years. The Kings eventually bought the hotel and spent 10 million dollars to restore it. In the process changed it to have 13 suites and very high levels of service.

Black Canyon of the Gunnison

The deepest and narrowest canyon in the USA is found in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. It is well worth your time to visit.

The visitor's center has great displays of raptors found in the park

Viewing areas are found throughout the park

 

Silver Plume

We found the diesels at the Silver Plume, Colorado rail yard operating and the steam powered Shay pulling the passenger train to Georgetown. The aspens were in full color which made for a beautiful day.

Denver Union Station and Art Museum

Denver recently completed the renewal of their Union Station. We enjoyed seeing the results.

The Denver Art Museum and area surrounding it is very well laid out.
