Monongahela Incline

Pittsburgh Pennsylvania is surrounded by high bluffs. The workers lived on the bluffs, but the industry was down in the city. A need existed to move the workers to the industry and this was met by making a railroad that actually goes up and down a rather steep incline, naturally enough called an 'Incline Railroad'

This railroad still exists and is a National Historic Landmark and is setup for sight seeing. We checked it out.

You step inside the station and await entry to the rail car at a door on a landing along the stairway

This is the view from inside the car looking up the incline.

The seating within the car is on three levels with room for sitting and standing depending upon passenger load.

Views from the top are most impressive

The skyline is identified by informational posters along the upper walkway
