We were traveling Interstate 44 to St Louis and were looking for a spot to take a break. We noticed a listing on our road map for Maramec Springs which has the first iron furnace in Missouri. That seemed like a good bet so we found the park.
What a beautiful place to visit! Hiking trails go past underground springs and trout raising pools, the history of iron production in the 1800's is explained and the trees were just breaking out in bloom.

Our dog thought this was a wonderful place to explore |
The two boxes along the trail are dispensers for trout food pellets. The fish have figured this out and gather whenever they see a person, expecting to be fed. |
Not to sure who was watching who here |
This was a hydro electric plant for many years |
The trail takes you under the road to the iron works |
We enjoyed our break from travel at this park |
