Lobster harvesting is a big business in Maine. The Maine Maritime Museum has an entire building devoted to the history and technology of lobster (pronounced "Lob-sta" in Maine) harvesting.
I think this is their parade car to promote the museum.
Smacks were used to keep lobster alive for travel to distant cities
Metal traps have replaced wooden ones
Each lobster man has unique bouys marking his traps
Measuring tools are used to determine if a lobster is a "keeper"
Really?
I especially enjoyed the display of historic lobster boats
The right half of this boat has been restored
Display included a history of lobster boat engines
Nice models of traditional "peapod " lobster boats
Looks like a really nice museum.
