2016 Narrow Gauge Convention - More Modules

The 2016 National Narrow Gauge convention was held in Augusta, Maine at their Civic Center.

People from all over the world attend these events. They often bring a railroad module with them. Modules are short sections of a scale model railroad that are built to a set of standards that allows these modules to match up with track aligning so trains can be run. Rather extensive layouts can be made using lots of modules.

This event brought a considerable number of modules together.

I especially liked this module of ice harvesting

This layout was done in the scale of Nn3. This is a particularly small scale, about 1/2 the size of HO scale. N scale is 1/160th full size and the "3" means he is modelling railroads that were three feet between the rails. The builder of the layout is drawing up 3D CAD models of his desired structures and having them printed on 3D printers. This is a new technology for model railroaders being put to good use by this fellow.

Next comes O scale models - these are 1/4" to the foot models or 1/48th full size.

Looks like he had quite a trip!

Other micro layouts could be found that displayed quite a bit of whimsy

We also had the S scale guys there. They model in the scale of 1/64th full size - in this case a Maine two foot between the rails railroad. These were rather small trains in real life.

I particularly liked this layout and the "off layout" staging tracks.

More images of modules follow...

  1. I like the ice cutting scene too. And the garden, very nice. I also now understand why you are getting a 3D printer. :)
