The Penobscot Maritime Museum enjoys a location which includes a number of buildings of historical significance as well as a collection of small watercraft and docents who are most interesting to listen to about Maine's seafaring history.
The experience starts in the museum store and gives an overview of all that will be seen and a brief history on various ships |
Then your visit takes you to buildings on each side of the street thru the museum grounds |
First stop is a home of a sea captain of the era |
Next you end up in a display area for canoes of the time period |
This was one of my favorite parts of the museum. It is a set of square rigged sails and all of the lines needed to set the sails. they will teach you how to do so and appreciate what it was like to set sail on that type of ship. |
