Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill

Eleanor Roosevelt was the wife of Franklin Roosevelt and a fabulous person in the history of our country. Eleanor Roosevelt shared the various homes of her husband Franklin, but eventually acquired a home of her own near Hyde Park, New York. This was known as Val-Kill and was the first home Eleanor ever owned. All other homes she lived in were owned by others.

It is a peaceful walk to the house

We had a particularly energetic and knowledgeable Park service Ranger/Docent giving the tour.

The furnishings were modest and comfortable

She received a gift of a nameplate from a student and she didn't have the heart to tell him her name was misspelled.

This is the room in which JFK asked Eleanor for her support in his Presidential election
