Louis Sullivan was a famous architect well known for his office building and skyscraper designs. He also designed banks for small towns when he had a client who wanted something a bit special. This bank is considered the finest small town bank ever designed. It was completed in 1908.
Louis Sullivan would be surprised, and I hope pleased, to find people are travelling long distances to see his Jewel Box banks. The architecture of the buildings has endured and left a legacy of his design talents.
We visited the one in Owatonna, Minnesota. The current owners realize the architectural jewel they have and encourage your exploration of the building.
