George Eastman is best known as the creator of Kodak film and cameras. He created a way for people of modest means to enjoy photography. He developed a method of applying photographic chemicals to a flexible base that could be wound into a roll.
He provided this in a simple, easily carried camera that could be used by most anyone. After a number of images were taken the entire camera was returned to Kodak for processing and your pictures were returned to you.
He was very good at Marketing and originated the KODAK name. This was a 'made up' name that sounded good and was easy to remember. He made a fortune from this modest start.
His home is now both a house museum and a museum of the history of photography.
