Gerald Ford Presidential Library

We enjoy exploring the history of our country and one way is to visit the Presidential Libraries. Gerald Fords library is found in his home town of Grand Rapids Michigan.

They have done a nice job on his museum. You have a number of options as to how to travel thru the museum and after a bit of study you can chose which part of his life and career you wish to follow and in what order.

Gerald Ford became President when Richard Nixon resigned. Gerald Ford was the only president who had not been elected to either the office of vice president or president. The library explained how that all came about.

Mom had a rough start with her first marriage, but a second marriage brought a husband that gave good values to Gerald

I liked reading about the positive effects Boy Scouts had on his life

Betty Ford's life was covered in some detail

Gerald Ford was perhaps one of the most athletic of all of our presidents, but a slip and fall on an aircraft stairway led to his being the source of much ridicule by comedians. He later met with Chevy Chase (who portrayed the President as clumsy) and joked with him showing he was a good sport.

Betty Ford's addiction and treatment was covered

Part of the displays covered science and technology of the time, especially the space program and shuttle disasters

The Gerald Ford aircraft carrier was the first of its class

The coverage of his death and funeral service was covered and  was very moving

Various exhibits throughout the museum covered major events of his presidency

The gift shop sells 'Bobble heads' of each of the presidents

  1. Such a fascinating presidential library dedicated to an under-appreciated president in my opinion. I did not realize that Jimmy Carter was a very close friend...listening to his tribute at President Ford's funeral was very, very moving. I love your blog!
