FLW Hotel in Bartlesville, OK

While heading home from the National Narrow Gauge Convention we stopped in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to spend the night in the  Frank Lloyd Wright designed.Price Tower.

The concrete is all colored the "Cherokee Red" Mr. Wright enjoyed

The lighting and elevator indicators are highly styled

The museum found within the building gives a well done overview of the history and develpment of the structure.

FLW's mother provided him with building blocks as a child to help influence spatial development

The museum shows examples of the furniture designed for the building

A small restaurant is located in the main floor of the building.

This image highlights the elevator access and layout

I especially like the sun dial

The room was attractive, the beds comfortable, the architecture wonderful and the view was fabulous.

Also to be found in Bartlesville OK is one the last of the 2-10-2 'Santa Fe' style locomotives

Locomotive is found alongside the nicely preserved railroad station

Lots to enjoy in and around Bartlesville - well worth your time to visit.

North Carolina Transportation Museum

Spencer, NC is the home of the North Carolina Transportation Museum.

This is a large facility that includes a museum of automobiles, a classic steam engine roundhouse filled with classic train engines, modular model railroads, railroad passenger cars  and specialty displays that change regularly - when we visited the display was of eccentric bicycles which was very interesting.

The former car shop now contains a large collection of cars, trucks, wagons and an airplane

A classic milk delivery truck was part of the collection

Never knew something like this existed

Wonderful roundhouse and turntable with a large collection of historic railroad equipment

I enjoy seeing restored box cab locos

Nice to see a Shay in good condition

Boiler is offset to allow room for the geared drive train

These HO scale modules were especially well done

Rear platform on a business car

Speeders stored inside

One building is dedicated to classic cars

Another building is dedicated to changing displays, in this case Eccentric Bicycles

We also discovered the soft drink Cheerwine is bottled in the area. We had never heard of it and tried some at a local restaurant and found it to be tasty.
