Crystal Bridges

Living on the side of a mountain in the winter is a wonderful experience. The snow is pure white and quite deep and makes for a peaceful and serene place to live.

This all changes in the spring when that wonderful snow all starts to melt and turns the roads to a muddy mess. The road base pretty well dissolves and four wheel drive is needed to get around. This is known as "Mud Month" and the locals all find somewhere off the mountain to go. We did the same and took off towards St. Louis to enjoy spring in the flatlands.

Our first stop was the wonderful Crystal Bridges Art Museum found in Bentonville, Arkansas. They had a exhibition all about the artistic aspects of 'Crafts' we wanted to see.

We made our way to the museum over a trail thru the woods

The spears of turquoise glass made for a great color offset of the emerging red bud trees

The view of this from inside the museum is wonderful

The trail takes you to the Frank Lloyd Wright house located on the grounds

There is an interpretive shelter explaining the history of the home

Julie along the way

Interior views looking thru the windows

The concrete blocks were laid with the horizontal mortar lines raked and the vertical lines flush making the blocks appear to be horizontal elements

Models of the house are found in the museum

3D sculptures are found along the way

Examples of the naturally occurring crystals were shown. These were important in the early days of radio. I actually had a crystal radio as a boy.

Huge rocks covered with crystals were found along the trail.

I'll post another blog about the exhibits inside the museum
