One of the things about living in snow country is the worry of being snowed IN. This is of course when the storms are such that the roads are snow packed and the weather is such you should stay home and wait for the storm to blow through. In the mean time you enjoy time in front of the fireplace and some good food. This is an ideal time for retired folks as it is seldom we really HAVE to be out in a storm.
The less obvious worry is being away from home and being snowed OUT of being able to return. This happens when you leave in the morning and roads are dry and everything is plowed. While you are away the wind comes up and blows the snow across the road and creates drifts and icy conditions.
That happened to us recently. We left on a sunny day with no snow predicted, highways were dry and we went into town for a supply run. While away the wind picked up and started blowing the snow into drifts. By the time we returned mid afternoon we were busting thru drifts with the Jeep. Overnight the road blew shut in a few of the typical problem areas.
A bit of work with the plow truck the next morning got everything open again.
