Black Prince Mine

If you follow the 4x4 Trails on the North side of Arrastra Gulch outside of Silverton, Colorado you'll end up at the Black Prince mine. Mostly what is left are the ruins from a bygone era, but interesting to explore nevertheless.

This view shows the Jeep trail coming up to the mine. One of the wooden tram towers is in the center of the image

Wooden aerial tram tower

Most buildings surrounding the mine have succumbed to the heavy snows

Roof has slid into the walking path when the walls collapsed

This buildings is still intact, but the walls are giving way to side loads

A golden marmot kept me company on my hike

Path to what I believe was the tram house for the mine

Remains of a structure, likely the tram house

Beautiful views

The mne opening was blocked by snow and a gate is across the opening

About as far as you can you with a small vehicle

  1. I wonder when this mine was active? It looks interesting (and dangerous). I know so little about this industry. What were they mining here?
