For several years now the Gio Ponti designed building for the original Denver Art Museum has been under construction renovation. This renovation was completed in October 2021. We have been awaiting a chance to review the results and found ourselves making the trip in early April 2022.
This sculpture is outside the newer Denver Art Museum building |
The Gio Ponti building is shown in the upper right of this image. The dust bin sculpture is shown in the lower left |
The windows are particularly noticeable for their shapes |
This model is from the time of the original architectural design proposal |
We accessed the Ponti building via the second floor walkway |
There were a considerable number of exhibits of furniture designs and styles |
I really like this color scheme |
Nice to see Louis Sullivan designs are being preserved |
This chair is made up of 3D printed components that are copper plated |
The history of swiveling office chars was covered |
Overstuffed? |
Chairs formed of wood had a nice display |
Woven furniture was also on display |
Whimsical furniture was included |
The windows of the Ponti building are unique |
Nice to see examples of the artwork of Birger Sandzen who had his studio in Lindsborg, KS |
There is a wonderful rooftop viewing area |
The building is covered with ceramic tiles which you can see up close in the upper viewing area |
This sculpture remained in place in its own conditioned room while renovations were underway |
This painting was not part of the museum but found on south Broadway on the side of a building and was quite impressive |
