Walter Cronkite Memorial

We found a memorial to Walter Cronkite in St. Joseph, Missouri. Walter Cronkite was a well respected news commentator who we watched on TV when I was growing up. His coverage of the assassination of President John F Kennedy still is etched in my memory.

The Memorial is located in the lobby of a building on Missouri Western State University campus and includes photographs, mementos, a replica of his broadcast booth and numerous video clips of some of his famous broadcasts.

These include broadcasts of our various space program launches and recoveries, Presidential political conventions, the shooting and death of President Kennedy and the brokering of the Middle East Peace Accords

Upon entry you are presented with a variety of selections of some of his more famous broadcasts. I watched several including the one telling of the death of President Kennedy

His career included riding a glider into combat in WWII as a war correspondent. He suggests going to war by any means other than a glider...

All about his marriage to 'Betsy"

As his career progressed the network required he choose between his passion for driving race cars or his broadcast career

He covered political conventions for decades

This portion of the memorial was a timeline of  his career

A day I will long remember

Julie got to sit behind a replica of his broadcast desk and read the news

I think she could have had an alternative career

...And that's the way it is...

Cathedral of St Paul

The Cathedral of St Paul is a beautiful church and was on our list of architecture to see in the Twin Cities. We explored the church prior to Easter and were lucky to hear the choir practicing and enjoy the wonderful acoustics.

The Cathedral of Saint Paul is a Roman Catholic cathedral in the city of St. Paul, Minnesota. It is the Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis; the Co-Cathedral is the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis.

One of the most distinctive cathedrals in the United States, it sits on Cathedral Hill overlooking downtown St. Paul and features a distinctive copper-clad dome. It is dedicated to Paul the Apostle, who is also the namesake of the City of St. Paul.

The current building opened in 1915 as the fourth cathedral of the archdiocese to bear this name. On March 25, 2009, it was designated as the National Shrine of the Apostle Paul by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Vatican. It is the third-largest Catholic cathedral and sixth-largest church in the United States. Wikipedia
