Kirkland Museum of Decorative Art

Denver Colorado is the home of the Kirkland Museum of Decorative Art. This is an eclectic museum which houses a wide variety of well designed objects. Mr Kincaids art is on display and highlights the various phases of his career.

The curator collects a wide variety of well designed objects which makes for an interesting museum to visit and explore.

I especially liked this hand painted treatment of a typical window shade

KATY Trail - Fall 2015

We enjoyed our spring ride on the KATY Trail so much we decided to ride some of the more scenic portions again in the fall. We hoped to catch the trees in the midst of the color change but missed that by a week or so. The weather was wonderful for our multi day ride.

Our cat delayed our departure for a bit as she was apparently batting a treble fish hook around from a pole leaning against the wall and succeeded in lodging one of the hooks in her foot. This gave the vet something to do for a bit before we eventually made it on our way to Missouri.

Lots of good signage is all along the trail telling the history

This is the start of "Lard Hill", a rather long climb. The name came about because a railroad train hit and killed a woman's pig. The railroad would only settle for $5.00 and the woman said her pig was worth more. She rendered the pig and coated the rails with the resulting fat from the pig. The train could not climb the hill with slipping wheels on the rail and ended up settling with the woman for the true value of the pig.

This is as far west as we made it. We really do believe the trail was uphill both ways from Boonville to here.

Lake Fork of the Gunnison Canyon

The Lake Fork of the Gunnison river flows thru a pretty canyon on the way to the Blue Mesa reservoir. In years past the narrow gauge railroad traveled thru the canyon into Lake City. The old right of way is now a road thru the canyon.

It is a very peaceful place to spend some time.
