Tippecanoe Place

The Studebaker's were well known and successful wagon manufacturers prior to the invention of the automobile. Their wagons were used for every kind of use and made the companies founder very wealthy.

He used his assets to build a mansion in South Bend Indiana. He lived there for a number of years until financial reversals forced the sale of the property. After a number of uses over the years the home is now a restaurant.  We had the good fortune to be treated to a meal there. The buildings history is well preserved.

This architectural style was known for the fine level of detail in wood carvings

There are four levels to the mansion - each has a dining room

The steps were arranged to allow women in formal hoop skirted dresses to be announced
