We found the entire process of creating and loading the iron ore taconite pellets to be of interest. Turns out there is a park in Marquette Michigan next to an ore loading dock which makes watching a ship load rather easy.
Rail cars of ore dump their contents into bins in the ore dock. Ships then have their cargo holds filled by loading ramps that drop into position over their open hatches.
