Art Glass

Toledo Ohio is know for its glass making capabilities. Those skills are also part of the art community and result in decorative art in abundance.

The Toledo Art Museum has a glass gallery which is a work of art in itself. The walls are large sheets of plate glass!

Classes in glass making are taught here as well as offering a world class exhibit of glass art pieces.

Glass furnaces are located in the building and allow demonstrations by glass blowers

The remainder of the building includes examples of the glass blowers art

Chess pieces

Drug store model made of glass

This technique involves creating strands of glass that are fused together

This example takes the screens of broken LCD displays and arranges them to reflect and refract light. It constantly changed as you walked around it

I'm fascinated by this display as I cannot figure out how it is done. Near as I can tell the highly polished spheres are reflecting golden globes located beneath but I don't see how

On our travels we explored glass displays at other museums and include these images.

  1. Beautiful artwork! I can see why you liked this place. That giant white "chili pepper" looking sculpture hanging from the ceiling looks just like the orange one in the art museum up at college, bet the same artist did them both. Were all those pieces for sale, or was it more for display?
